Chinese name coal tar
Foreign name coal tar
A black or dark brown viscous liquid with a pungent odor generated during the dry distillation of coal. Referred to as tar. Coal tar can be divided into low-temperature coal tar, medium-temperature coal tar and high-temperature coal tar according to the dry distillation temperature. The coal tar obtained in coke production belongs to high-temperature coal tar. It is one of the coke oven gas purification products condensed and separated during the cooling process of crude gas.
Coal tar is generally used as a raw material for processing and refining to produce various chemical products, (see coal tar processing) can also be directly used, such as industrial coal, coke and coal-based activated carbon as a binder ingredient component, also It can be used as a raw material for fuel oil, blast furnace injection fuel, wood preservative oil and carbon black.
The phenolic compounds in medium and low temperature coal tar are mainly low-grade phenols. Chemical extraction can be used to extract low-grade phenols as chemical raw materials. The distillate after low-grade phenol extraction will be an excellent raw material for hydrogenation to produce high cetane number diesel.
Medium and low temperature coal tar can be hydrotreated to produce diesel, gasoline and other vehicle engine fuel oil and chemicals.
The hydrogenation of high-temperature coal tar to produce fuel oil is more difficult than the hydrogenation of medium and low-temperature coal tar. According to the traditional processing technology, the fractions of high-temperature coal tar can be further processed to separate a variety of chemical products. The main products and uses of extraction processing are:
